During a meeting with Iranian President Ibrahim Raeesi in Dushanbe, Prime Minister Imran Khan invited him to visit Pakistan and said that after 40 years in Afghanistan, there is an opportunity for a final end to the war and conflict.
A statement issued after the meeting between Prime Minister Imran Khan and Iranian President Ibrahim Raisi said that the two leaders had an informal meeting on the sidelines of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) summit in Dushanbe.
According to the statement, the two leaders discussed bilateral relations, regional and international issues of mutual interest.
Prime Minister Imran Khan congratulated Iranian President Ibrahim Raisi on his victory in the recent presidential elections and reiterated that Pakistan would continue to work with Iran to further strengthen and expand the fraternal ties between the two countries.
According to the statement, the meeting focused on all aspects of bilateral relations, focusing on trade, economy and regional co-ordination.
On the occasion, Prime Minister Imran Khan highlighted his economic security agenda and Pakistan's transition from geopolitics to geoeconomics.
The Prime Minister thanked the Iranian President and especially the Supreme Leader for his continued cooperation on the issue of Occupied Jammu and Kashmir.
He also highlighted the dire human rights situation in occupied Jammu and Kashmir and said that Iran's principled stance was a source of encouragement to the people of Kashmir, who are fighting for their right to self-determination.
Referring to Afghanistan, Prime Minister Imran Khan said that a peaceful, stable and prosperous Afghanistan is in Pakistan's interest and stressed that after 40 years, there is an opportunity to end the war and conflict in Afghanistan.
"Emergency measures are needed to fix Afghanistan's security situation, avoid a humanitarian crisis and strengthen the economy," he said.
The Prime Minister said that stabilization efforts would be implemented with respect for the rights of all sections of Afghan society and under a comprehensive political structure.
He praised Iran's role in cooperating with Pakistani initiatives in Afghanistan.
Imran Khan emphasized the importance of the role of the international community through a positive message with Afghanistan and constructive practical steps.
According to the statement, Prime Minister Imran Khan invited Iranian President Ibrahim Raeesi to visit Pakistan on the occasion while the Iranian President also invited the Prime Minister to visit Iran.

Talking about the informal meeting with the Iranian President at the SCO meeting, he said that the Iranian President had assured the Prime Minister that there would be no cross-border attacks by Pakistan inside Pakistan.
He said that the meeting with Ibrahim Raeesi ended in a positive manner and all issues were discussed.
He said that the Prime Minister was successful and that the Foreign Ministers would soon meet in Tehran to discuss the regional situation.
He said that the Prime Minister urged the Biden administration to reconsider its policy towards Pakistan and Afghanistan, adding that Pakistan wanted peace in the region and all steps were being taken in this regard.
