Twenty-four people, including two minors, were arrested after a gang-rape of 33 people with a 15-year-old girl was reported several times over a period of nine months near Mumbai, India.
The tragic story began in January when the girl's friend allegedly raped her and made a video of her.
He blackmailed the girl using the video to rape her again.
The boy allegedly shared the video with many other people, friends and acquaintances, all of whom used it to blackmail the teenage girl.
According to police, the girl was gang-raped several times and in several places near Mumbai.
"It all started when the girl's friend raped her in January and videotaped the incident," said Additional Commissioner of Police (Eastern Region) Dattatreya Krale.
He said that he started blackmailing her based on the video, after which the boy's friends and acquaintances gang-raped her in 4 to 5 different places including Dombili, Badlapur, Marbad and Rable districts. What
The girl contacted the police last night and is now undergoing treatment at the hospital.
Police said that 24 people have been arrested at the request of the girl, she knew almost all the accused.
Some of the suspects are believed to belong to a political party.
Police have registered charges of sexual offenses under the Child Protection Act.
The case has sparked public outrage across India and has caught the attention of political parties, who have called for harsher punishments for those who attack teenagers.
The Governor of the Indian state of Maharashtra, Bhagat Singh Koshiari, wrote a letter to Chief Minister Adu Thackeray calling for a special meeting in return for which the ruling party of Maharashtra, Shiv Sena, accused him of politics.
Shiv Sena accused the governor of being a proxy for the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in the federation.
