Discovery of an unusually large shark nursery near Israel

Israel: A large shark nursery and possibly the largest egg nursery have been discovered in deep water. It is located in the deep waters near Tel Aviv.

Several Israeli agencies have announced after a joint investigation that the site in the depths of the North Mediterranean is probably the only area in the world where the largest number of sharks mate for breeding. The study was conducted by the Israeli Naval Research Institute, the University of Haifa, Ben Gurion University and the Marine Research University of Eilat.

The study, conducted in the context of climate change, examines marine research and marine biology. We know that climate change is also having a negative effect on the number of whales and sharks. That is why the United Nations has also emphasized "underwater life" in its Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), which require the protection and survival of marine life.

Israeli experts say sharks have been found in large numbers in the surrounding waters, but there are also large numbers of disco and sandbar sharks. Experts do not yet know the reason, but some believe that due to the lack of fishing and ships, sharks come here safely. In this study, experts have seen hundreds of baby sharks and thousands of their eggs, which are very different from traditional eggs.
