It has been revealed that university employees have been participating in the issuance and certification of degrees at the University of Peshawar for years.
The University of Peshawar, the largest university in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, issues more than 20,000 transcripts and degrees to students annually, with university employees receiving degrees, transcripts (marks sheets) and verification fees. 8% share was allocated for, 50% of the amount received was fixed for Controller Examinations, 30% for Deputy Controller and 20% for Verification Assistant, 40% for Controller Examinations and Registrar in Online Foreign Verification Fee 20% share was kept.
Millions of rupees taken from students under the guise of law at the University of Peshawar went into the personal accounts of employees, Rs 1.6 million out of Rs 2 crore annually for verification and Rs 2.6 million out of Rs 33 million annually for issuance of degrees.
On the other hand, Special Assistant for Higher Education Kamran Khan Bangash expressed ignorance of the decision of the University Syndicate regarding the share of employees in the fees and said that some people in the universities are playing the role of mafia. Prior to 2012, the employees of the examination department used to receive 10% of the fees for the issuance of degrees and verification, but later the syndicate increased this share to 8%.
