A blast took place at a house in Johar Town area of Lahore, killing two people and injuring 17 others, five of whom are in critical condition.
According to police sources, the blast took place in a vehicle loaded with explosives outside the house.
Police sources said that a 4 feet deep pit had fallen at the site of the blast, in which water pipes passing through it burst. CTD officials are busy gathering evidence from the spot.
Lahore CCPO Ghulam Mehmood Dogar while talking to media said that 2 people were killed and 17 others were injured in the blast out of which 4 were in critical condition.
According to rescue sources, the blast was so severe that the windows of nearby houses were shattered and some passers-by were also injured in the blast.
Rescue teams rushed to the spot as soon as the blast was reported and started the rescue operation and shifted the injured to Jinnah Hospital.
The injured were rushed to the hospital in private vehicles, while a bomb disposal squad also reached the spot.
Punjab Chief Minister Sardar Usman Bazdar directed to provide best medical facilities to the injured in the blast.
The Punjab Chief Minister also directed to impose emergency in Jinnah Hospital and other hospitals.
According to Dr Yahya, MS Jinnah Hospital, Lahore, the emergency room of the hospital has been evacuated from normal patients.
He said that 1 policeman, 1 pregnant woman and 2 children were also among the injured. The condition of 4 injured due to burns is critical.
A child with chest injuries and a pregnant woman transferred to a ventilator.
The condition of the injured police officer is also critical, for which blood was arranged.
According to an eyewitness, a man parked his motorcycle, shortly after which the motorcycle exploded.
Rescue officials said the nature of the blast could not be determined immediately. The bomb disposal squad's report will determine the nature of the blast.
Talking to Geo News at Jinnah Hospital, DC Lahore Mudassar Riaz said that the condition of 8 injured people admitted in the hospital is critical.
He said that general threats were received, there was no such threat, the situation is likely to become clear after investigation.
DC Lahore also said that we have not found any body parts at the scene. We cannot say yet what kind of blast it was.
Johar Town is a residential and commercial area with mostly car showrooms. The blast also damaged two or three buildings and several vehicles.
Police have cordoned off the area and no one is allowed to enter the blast site.
According to police, CTD and Bomb Disposal Squad teams are present at the spot, evidence is being collected, the nature of the blast will be known soon.
SSP Investigation Mansoor Aman said that senior police officials, bomb disposal squad and forensic teams have inspected the site and debris was scattered all over the place.
Punjab Health Minister Dr Yasmeen Rashid Jinnah reached the hospital where he inspected the injured in the blast.
Dr. Yasmeen Rashid also reviewed the medical aid provided to the injured in the hospital and issued necessary instructions.
Talking to Geo News, the occupant of the affected house said that our entire house was destroyed by the blast.
