The by-election process in National Assembly constituency 249 Karachi has been going on since 8 am and will continue till 5 pm without any break.
According to private TV, there is a public holiday in the constituency due to polling while strict security arrangements have been made outside the polling stations. Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), PML-N, PPP and Pak-Sar-e-Zamin party candidates are expected to face off.
Amjad Iqbal of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), Muftah Ismail of PML-N, Qadir Mandokhel of PPP and Mustafa Kamal of Pak-Sar-e-Zamin Party are contesting in the fray, besides Hafiz Muhammad Mursalin of MQM-Pakistan.
It should be noted that the seat of NA-249 has been vacated by Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI).
796 polling booths have been set up in the constituency, CCTV cameras have been installed in the most sensitive polling stations, Rangers and police personnel are patrolling in the constituency.
The total number of voters in the constituency is 339,591. Most of the candidates in the by-elections are not voters of NA-249, Muftah Ismail of PML-N, Amjad Afridi of PTI and Mustafa Kamal of Pak-Sar-e-Zamin party.
