According to the Stockholm International Peace Research Institute, the United States is still the largest trader in the global arms market. Over the past five years, US exports to the global arms market have increased by 37%.

47% of US arms exports went to the Middle East, with Saudi Arabia purchasing 24% of total US arms exports. The United States now supplies arms to 96 states.

France's large arms exports increased by 44%, while Germany's exports increased by 21%. Both Israel and South Korea significantly increased their exports.

According to the SIPRI, the Middle East has imported 25 percent more weapons than in the past five years. Saudi Arabia's imports rose the most at 61 percent.

In addition, Egypt's arms imports increased by 136 percent and Qatar's by 361 percent.

According to the report, arms exports from Russia fell by 22%, while China, the world's fifth-largest arms exporter, saw its exports fall by 7.8%.
