The year 2020 was marked by the Corona virus, lockdowns and curfews, while the popularity, use and business of online video services and platforms around the world increased exponentially while people were living in their homes.
According to the Saudi website, last year saw a dramatic increase in the number of users watching videos on YouTube in Saudi Arabia.
According to the latest figures, the number of YouTube users in Saudi Arabia reached 20 million by 2020, while the average duration of watching videos was 55 minutes.
YouTube tops the list of most-watched videos in Saudi Arabia, with puzzles and adventure videos topping the list, followed by martial arts videos, especially freestyle wrestling.
Similarly, watching science and sports-related content increased by 200 per cent last year, especially in various forms of learning practical skills, as well as doubling the interest in watching video games and movies.
This comes at a time when many international companies, such as Amazon Prime, have begun airing their films on YouTube.
During the year 2020, Saudis showed a special interest in creating new videos for YouTube, with 7 out of every 10 videos seen in Saudi Arabia being their own production, according to Mashable.
