A magnitude 7.2 earthquake on the northeastern coast of Japan has triggered a tsunami alert.
Japan's Meteorological Agency issued a tsunami alert on Saturday, according to a foreign news agency.
At 06:00 GMT, a magnitude 6.0 earthquake shook the Pacific Ocean off the coast of Miyagi, Japan. A tsunami alert has been issued in Miyagi Prefecture.
According to local media, no damage has been reported from Miyagi so far and the local administration is reviewing the condition of the nuclear plant in the area.
The Meteorological Department has instructed fishermen not to go to sea while citizens have been asked not to leave their homes unnecessarily.
The US Geological Survey, meanwhile, said Saturday's quake had a magnitude of 7.0 on the Richter scale.
Earlier on February 14, a magnitude 7.3 earthquake shook Japan. The epicenter was reported at 135 miles from Fukushima, at a depth of 55 kilometers.
Hundreds of buildings were damaged and more than 100 people were injured, but fortunately no casualties were reported.
