The federal government has demanded the resignation of the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP). Shafqat Mahmood said that it was the responsibility of the Election Commission to hold transparent elections which were not fulfilled.
Addressing a press conference in Islamabad, Federal Minister for Education Shafqat Mahmood said that the Election Commission has failed, the Election Commission as a whole should resign.
Shafqat Mahmood said that the confidence of the people has risen from the Election Commission, a new Election Commission has been formed on which everyone has confidence.
He also demanded the immediate resignation of the Chief Election Commissioner and members of the Election Commission.
He said that the parliament should be given a chance to form a new election commission on which everyone can have confidence.
Shafqat Mahmood said that the Election Commission was not playing the role of a neutral umpire.
He also said that PTI is the largest party, has no confidence in the Election Commission, will not file any reference against the Election Commission.
The Federal Minister also said that if other parties are asked, they also have reservations about the Election Commission, no party is happy with the ECP.
Referring to the recent Senate elections, he said that the failure of what happened in the Senate elections was due to the Election Commission, the ECP could not fulfill its responsibilities and fail.
