Streaming website Amazon Prime has apologized to Indian viewers for showing controversial content in the web series Tandav.
The company said in a statement titled "Amazon Prime Video Apologies" that it apologized for the specific scenes that were objected to, according to Reuters.
The statement said that Amazon Prime apologizes to all those whose feelings were hurt by these scenes.
The company will continue to produce content while respecting the diverse cultures and beliefs of the audience, it added.
A senior Indian police official, speaking on condition of anonymity, said authorities would continue to investigate the matter.
It may be recalled that members of the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and others had lodged defamation petitions against the Tandavteam at various police stations over the controversial material contained in the Tandav.
After people objected to a scene from the 'Tandav' series, the 'Tandav' team also apologized to the public and announced the removal of the said scene.
People had objected to a scene in 'Tandav' in which actor Zeeshan Ayub was portrayed as a Hindu deity 'Shiv' during a stage performance.
In the said scene, the actor had uttered some inappropriate phrases as 'Shiv', which was protested by the followers of Hindu religion and the said scene was called an insult to Hindu religion and deity.
Indian police later interrogated a top Indian official on the streaming website Amazon Prime for about four hours for showing controversial material in the political thriller web series Tandav.
Even before 'Tandav', Indians have accused some scenes of Bollywood movies, including Netflix and Amazon's web series or movies, of insulting the Hindu religion and deities.
'Tandav', released in January, is a political thriller series starring Saif Ali Khan, Zeeshan Ayub and Dimple Kapadia and directed by Muslim director Ali Abbas Zafar.
