The United Nations has announced it will raise the issue of forcible imprisonment of Princess Latifa, daughter of Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, ruler of Dubai, with the United Arab Emirates (UAE).
Sheikha Latifa has alleged that her father has been holding her hostage in Dubai since she tried to escape in 2018.
According to a report by the British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC), in secret videos recently received by the BBC, Sheikha Latifa has said that she is in danger of being killed.
Following the release of the secret video of Princess Latifa, the United Nations is being asked to investigate the matter at the international level, while the United Kingdom has called these videos 'extremely disturbing'.
The UN High Commissioner for Human Rights said in a statement that he would soon question the UAE over Sheikh Latifa's case.
A spokesman for the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights said: "We will definitely share this development with the UAE."
He said other parts of the UN human rights system could also be part of the issue with the relevant mandate once the new material is reviewed.
A spokesman for the UN Working Group on Enforced Detention said it could launch an investigation after reviewing Latifa's videos.
"We are very concerned," said Dominic Robb, Britain's foreign secretary.
He said the videos showed "a young woman in deep distress", adding that the UK would look "very closely" at any progress made by the United Nations.
On the other hand, the Prime Minister of the United Kingdom Boris Johnson has also said that his government is 'concerned' about this issue but he will wait and see how the United Nations investigates.
The videos of Sheikha Latifa, which came to light recently, were recorded over the past several months on a phone, which was secretly given to her almost a year after her arrest and return to Dubai.
Sheikha Latifa recorded these videos in the bathroom because she could only lock the bathroom door.
In the classified videos, he described his capture and subsequent capture, saying that when he was being unloaded from the boat, he fought with soldiers and cut the arm of an Emirati commando until he screamed.
Sheikha Latifa said that after being given anesthesia, she was taken on a private plane and did not get up until the plane landed in Dubai.
According to the princess, she has been kept alone in a villa without access to medical and legal aid, with windows and doors completely locked and a police guard outside the house.
Sheikh Latifa was caught and imprisoned during her escape from Dubai, said a close friend of hers, Tina Johannon, a cousin Marcus Isabri and an activist, David Haye, all three of whom are "free Latifa".
He said the decision to issue the messages was taken due to concerns over Sheikha Latifa's safety.
According to Tina Johanin, a close friend of the princess, it has been a long time since they lost contact.
It may be recalled that Sheikha Latifa had tried to flee Dubai twice and failed both times. She was arrested in 2002 and 2018 and brought back to Dubai.
He was imprisoned for up to 3 years on his father's instructions before attempting to escape for the first time, his second imprisonment in March 2018 making headlines.
A friend of Sheikha Latifa said that the commandos arrested her while she was trying to escape by sea in the Indian Ocean. The commandos dragged her out of the boat, tortured her while she was screaming but the commandos stopped her Keep harassing
In addition, 45-year-old Princess Haya bint Al-Hussein, the wife of the ruler of Dubai, fled the UAE in April 2019 in fear of her husband and filed a case for the return of her two children.
During the hearing of the same case last year, Judge Andrew McLaren, who presided over the Family Division of the High Court of England and Wales, ordered that Sheikh Mohammed be abducted from the British city of Cambridge in Sheikha Shamsa in August 2000 and that Sheikha Shamsa was 19 years old at the time.
The judge had said that Sheikha Shamsa was forced to return to Dubai and her freedom was taken away from her for the last two decades while Sheikha Latifa was arrested twice in 2002 and 2018 and brought back to Dubai.
A London court had ruled that Sheikh Mohammed had created a situation where both young women were deprived of their liberty.
After the case was considered in court, Sheikha Latifa's friends were hopeful that there might be some benefit after the court's decision, but it did not happen and now they decided to release the princess's messages.
