The Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) has arrested two people from Italy on suspicion of having links to international child pornography on an Interpol report.
Mohammad Iqbal, a senior FIA official, said the arrests came after an early morning raid on the outskirts of Sialkot.
He said that this was the first time that Interpol had provided information to Pakistan about the existence of any criminal operation related to child pornography in Pakistan.
He told the Associated Press that computer-generated material showed that one of the men allegedly "belonged to an international group and posted a video of child pornography on the Dark Web." ۔
Note that dark websites do not appear in search engines and require specific software.
Muhammad Iqbal said that after the arrest of the first accused, he was interrogated, as a result of which a colleague was arrested from the area but two other accused are still absconding.
He said that under the law, the two persons would have to be produced before a judge within 24 hours and the accused would be asked for more time for further investigation.
In August last year, the Senate Standing Committee on Child Protection was told that the highest number of pornography cases had been registered in Pakistan so far this year, with 13 cases reported so far.
Federal Investigation Agency officials briefed the committee on child pornography videos.
Cybercrime officials had said that Pakistan has started receiving data on those who upload and download child pornography and according to the information, most of the pornography cases involve individuals.
