The girls were rushed to a nearby hospital for first aid. However, the two girls succumbed to their injuries before reaching the hospital.
The cause of death of the girls will be known only after postmortem. A third girl has been sent to the central hospital for treatment.
According to Indian media, the Superintendent of Police of Anao Police Station said that three girls aged 14, 15 and 16 from the same family in Baburaha village had left home at 3 pm to fetch fodder for the animals.
When they did not return home until late in the evening, a search was launched. Meanwhile, the three girls were found in a field outside the village and were tied with a handkerchief.
Upon receiving the information, the police rushed to the spot and sent the three girls to a nearby community medical center where doctors said that two girls had died.
The third girl was in critical condition and was rushed to Kanpur Hospital, the police officer said. Doctors have expressed concern that the girls have been poisoned, but the real truth will come out only after the post-mortem report.
