Water levels in Turkey's dams have fallen to a 10- to a 15-year low, raising the risk of famine in Turkey. According to Mail Online, the city of Istanbul has only 45 days of water left because the water level in its Omerli Dam has reached its lowest level in 15 years and will only take another 45 days. The Omerli Dam is the largest source of water for Istanbul.
Ankara Mayor Mansour Yves has also confirmed that there are only 110 days of water left for the capital. Dams in Turkey's other two largest cities, Izmir and Bursa, also have only 36 and 24 percent of their capacity, respectively. According to the report, this water shortage situation in Turkey is due to a severe decrease in rainfall. In December last year, mosques across Turkey announced that people should pray for rain.
