In India, a Pakistani woman became the sarpanch of a village, much to the astonishment of Indian officials. According to India Times, the 65-year-old woman's name is Bano Begum who was a resident of Karachi. She went to attend a relative's wedding in Uttar Pradesh's Eta district 35 years ago and never returned to Pakistan. He also married a local man there and extended his visa and stayed there. He applied for Indian citizenship several times but was not granted citizenship. However, somehow he obtained an Indian Aadhaar card. Create voter ID and other identification documents.
Based on these documents, Bano Begum participated in the election of Gwadar village gram panchayat and was elected a member of the panchayat. After the death of village Sarpanch Shahnaz Begum in January last year, Bano Begum was made the acting Sarpanch. She held the post of Sarpanch for a few months, after which a local man filed a petition against her saying that she was a Pakistani and could not hold the post. The District Panchayati Raj Officer ordered an inquiry against him and when the allegation was proved to be true, he was removed from office and an FIR was lodged against him. An investigation has also been launched against Banu Begum in the case of how she obtained Aadhar card and other documents, even though she was not an Indian citizen.
