Legendary Indian cricketer and commentator Sunil Gavaskar was horrified by the words of praise for the release of captain Ajinkya after the Indian team's excellent performance against Australia.
According to Indian media reports, on the first day of the Boxing Day Test match being played at the Melbourne Cricket Ground, the Indian team bowled well and bowled out Australia before the 200 marks.
A cautious statement came from Sunil Gavaskar in this regard in which he said that we should not reach an immediate decision.
"If I say that his (Rahane's) captaincy was the best, I will be accused of supporting the Mumbai boy, I don't want to get involved in these matters because it will be premature," he said.
It should be noted that under the captaincy of Virat Kohli, the Indian team lost the series 1-2.
After this defeat, Virat Kohli's captaincy was questioned in the cricket circles in India, while rumors were circulating that Rohit Sharma would be made the captain in his place.
Sunil Gavaskar said of Ajinkya Rahane that he had a very impressive captaincy, and apart from Virat's strategy, he soon brought Ashwin to bowl and sent players like Matthew Wade and then Steve Smith to the pavilion.
The legendary cricketer said that the fielding done by Rahane was absolutely correct as evidenced by the wickets of Smith and Labushin.
