The closure of canals across the country was announced

 
Announcing the closure of canals for better sanitation, Irsa said that canals across the country would be closed from December 26. According to Pakistan Daily, Irsa has issued a schedule for the closure of canals for the Bhal cleaning campaign, according to which the canals connected to Mangla Dam in Punjab will remain closed from December 26 to January 13. The canals connected to Tarbela Dam will remain closed from December 31 to January 30. The canals connected to Sukkur Barrage in Sindh will remain closed from January 6 to January 20. The canals connected to Kotri Barrage will remain closed from December 26 to January 10. The canals of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa will remain closed from January 1 to 31. The canals of Balochistan will be closed in April.
