Bollywood actress Alia Bhatt is playing the role of Ganguly in Bhansali Productions' film.
The story of Sanjay Leela Bhansali's film Gangubai Kathiawari revolves around the owner of a brothel in Mumbai's Kamathipura area who is based on a real character.
According to the Hindustan Times, Babuji Raoji Shah has also registered a case against author Hussain Zaidi, whose novel 'The Mafia Queens of Mumbai' is being made into a film.
In addition, Babuji Raoji has also filed a case against reporter Jane Borges, whose research was the basis of this book.
According to The Print, Babuji Raoji has alleged that parts of The Mafia Queens of Mumbai are insulting and violate his right to privacy, self-respect and freedom.
He demanded the complete cessation of publication and distribution of the book, deletion of chapters on Gangubai's life and suspension of film production.
Babuji's lawyer Narendra Dubey said that next week he could also file a criminal complaint against insulting, indecent representation of women, obscene and indecent material.
The first hearing of the case was held in the Bombay Civil Court and the defendants have been asked to respond to the charges filed against them on January 7.
Remember that Gangu Bai Kathiawari is Alia Bhatt's first film with Sanjay Leela Bhansali.
Earlier, in an interview to Hindustan Times, Alia Bhatt had said about the shooting of the film despite the corona virus, "It's great to be with the team and get back on set."
