President Recep Tayyab Erdogan has said that Turkey is self-sufficient in designing all types of engines and producing them locally.
Addressing a video link ceremony at the Presidential Palace in Istanbul at Tosas Engineering Industries, he said that Turkey has entered a new era in the defense industry.
He said that Turkey will not have to buy engines from the outside world with 100% locally manufactured engines and Toussaint Engine Industries is a role model for Turkey. "A strong local defense industry is of paramount importance in the region where we live," he said. The Turkish defense industry lags far behind other countries in the region.
The manufacture of local engines will reduce high-tech imports by $ 60 million and Turkey will not have to rely on other countries' technology.
President Erdogan said that the demand for combat helicopters is increasing all over the world. Turkey is now able to export these modern combat helicopters. Turkey is currently one of seven countries capable of developing gas turbine engines.
