Iran has declared US sanctions on Turkey illegal. Turkey was banned by the United States after it acquired a Russian defense system.
Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan insisted on buying the Russian defense system and died after receiving it. It is currently in the process of installation and testing. The United States has advised Turkey to refrain from acquiring the Russian system. Iranian Foreign Minister Jawad Zarif has strongly condemned US sanctions on Turkey over its purchase of Russian defense systems, calling them a violation of international law. On social networking site Twitter, Jawad Zarif wrote that the United States is now addicted to sanctions and is forced by this habit to break the rules of international law. The Iranian foreign minister also said that The country strongly condemns the US sanctions and stands with the Turkish people and government. He also posted the hashtag "neighbors first" on Twitter.
