Hurricane Bella: Yellow warning issued for England and southern Scotland

 

Hurricane Bella has issued yellow warnings for England, Wales, and southern Scotland, with strong winds and rain forecast for Britain and Ireland.

According to the British Meteorological Department, 15 to 25 mm of rain is expected in South West England and Wales today, while coastal areas will experience winds of 70 mph.

The Met Office says travel will be difficult in southern England and South Wales from Saturday evening.

The Meteorological Department has expressed concern that tiles flying from the roofs of houses could cause injuries due to strong winds.

The Meteorological Department issued 78 flood warnings and 99 flood alerts in England as of Saturday morning.

Floods in a local Bedfordshire river have forced 1,300 families to flee their homes.

Fire chief Bedford said telling people to leave their homes on Christmas Day was a "terrible message".

Rain with strong winds is also forecast in London on Sunday and Monday.
