The European Union (EU) has welcomed the recent visit of Pakistani Prime Minister Imran Khan to Kabul and said that many issues in Afghanistan could be resolved with the cooperation of Pakistan.
These views were expressed by European sources in a briefing on the occasion of the Afghan Donor Conference to be held in Geneva on November 23 and 24 in collaboration with the United Nations and Finland.
Explaining this, the source said that there are many aspects of Afghanistan that are locked, but Pakistan has the keys to most of them.
The sources said that the Afghan process is very complex and difficult. Violence inside Afghanistan has escalated over the past five years, even after the Doha Accords.
Sources said that development and democracy in Afghanistan is in the interest of the whole world. On the occasion, the source appealed to other countries in the region besides Iran, China, Russia and India as well as the Gulf countries to play their role in achieving peace inside Afghanistan.
The sources especially appreciated the role of the Emir of Qatar on the occasion, whose tireless efforts and hospitality made possible talks between the United States and the Taliban. Similarly, the silent role of other Gulf countries was also mentioned.
Sources in the conversation said that at the Afghan Donors Conference held in Brussels, the European capital in 2016, the world had pledged a total of .2 15.2 billion (through which 75% of Afghanistan's expenditure was met while 25% was met. Expenses were met from internal sources in Afghanistan.
This time too, the European Union will fully participate in terms of financial assistance. In response to other questions, the sources said that we have invested in peace in Afghanistan for 20 years.
"It is not in our interest to leave Afghanistan now and soon," the source said, citing a statement from the German foreign minister. Similarly, aid to Afghanistan is conditional on a check and balance system and a corruption-free process. The source emphasized that the Taliban government in Afghanistan would not be accepted again.
