Federal Ministers say that controlling inflation is the top priority of the government. Imports of sugar have entered the market which will become cheaper by Rs. 15-20 per kg. In Islamabad, Federal Minister for Food Fakhr Imam, Information Minister Senator Shibli Faraz and Minister Industry and Production Hamad Azhar said in a joint press conference that he was apprised of the government's measures regarding wheat and sugar prices.
Syed Fakhr Imam said that the reason for the increase in the price of wheat was the reduction in production by 2 million tonnes. The stockists also stocked the wheat which increased the price but now the price has started falling from imported wheat. The private sector has exported 220,000 tonnes of wheat while a total of 1.8 million tonnes of imported wheat will be available in the country by January, the country will not be allowed to run out of wheat.
Hamad Azhar says that imported sugar has entered the market which will be priced at Rs 15-20 per kg. In a joint press conference with Federal Minister for Information Shibli Faraz and Federal Minister for Industries and Production Hamad Azhar in Islamabad on Friday. Meanwhile, the Federal Minister for National Food Security said that after almost 11 years, they have come to import wheat and it has been decided that 1.8 million tonnes of wheat will be imported by February.
Unfortunately, Sindh and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa did not pay attention to timely procurement of wheat and the Sindh government did not procure wheat last year, after which Pasco provided them with 4-6 lakh tonnes of wheat in December when the crisis hit. He said that wheat is being imported by the public and private sectors at present. He said that so far 122 days have passed in the wheat harvesting season in Pakistan and it has been decided to provide 4 million tonnes of wheat to the provinces immediately.
He said that at present there is no shortage of wheat in the country but the prices are not coming down due to stockpiling of wheat. He said that Punjab government is giving subsidy of Rs. 5 crore per month on wheat. This will further reduce the prices and at present the price of wheat has come down to Rs. 200 in a week.
