Leaving the Lanka Premier League has cost Mohammad Hafeez dearly, he will have to bear a loss of around Rs 10 million. The place contacted him, the all-rounder would get the equivalent of about one crore Pakistani rupees.
When he approached the PCB for permission, he was told that the tour would not be possible due to the tour of New Zealand, where he would have to spend a period of quarantine. When the national team from Lanka joined the Kiwis, they were asked to choose between the Pakistan team or the Lanka League, for which they apologized to the LPL organizers.
Interestingly, Mohammad Hafeez is not included in the PCB's central contract. He was paid Rs 22,950 per match for representing the Green Shirts in the tour of England. He won the Player of the Series award for scoring the same number of runs.
After the first match was marred by rain, Hafeez played an innings of 69 runs in the second match while in the third match he scored an unbeaten 86 runs and played a key role in the victory of the Green Shirts by 5 runs. Meanwhile, he ended his contract with the Caribbean League. He had to lose nearly Rs 1.5 crore due to this. Despite his consistently good performance, the PCB is reluctant to give him a central contract. On the other hand, many other cricketers also have contracts to play matches in the same category.
It may be recalled that the Lanka Premier League will be held from November 26 to December 16, while Pakistan's first Twenty20 International from New Zealand will be played on December 18 in Auckland.
