The highlight of this mosque is the beautiful and bright minaret of 43 storeys and 267 meters high which can be seen from all around the capital. The combination of blue marble and a special type of wood beautifies the interior of the mosque, while the carpet is adorned with charming floral designs.
In addition, the walls of the mosque are decorated with beautiful calligraphy. The mosque has a library of 1 million books, a lecture hall, a museum of Islamic history and art, 12 buildings including a garden and fountain. The mosque has five imams and five muezzins.
Prime Minister Abdul Aziz Jarad offered prayers at the inauguration of the mosque, which was also attended by political and religious leaders of the country. Currently, a hall of the mosque has been opened due to the Corona epidemic. Construction of the mosque began in 2012 by President Abdulaziz Bouteflika.
Construction of the mosque was completed in 2019 in seven years, but the inauguration was delayed due to controversy. The mosque was built by a Chinese company.
