Armenia has confirmed the deaths of more than 2,000 soldiers in the war with Azerbaijan. The ongoing war between Azerbaijan and Armenia over the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict has ended with a peace agreement with the help of Russia and Turkey.
Under the peace agreement, Azerbaijan will retain the territories liberated from Armenian occupation during the six-week war, while Armenia will have to relinquish control of the surrounding areas in the coming days.
The peace deal is being celebrated in Azerbaijan and mourning in Armenia, while Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan also blamed the ceasefire on the depletion of military resources and a tired army.
The Nagorno-Karabakh administration claimed more than 1,200 personnel had been killed in the six-week war, but now the Armenian Ministry of Health has confirmed the deaths of thousands of soldiers.
According to a spokesman for the Armenian Ministry of Health, the bodies of 2,317 Armenian soldiers and unknown individuals have been examined so far in the war.
The spokesman said that the process of exchanging the bodies of soldiers between the two countries has also started and the exact number could not be ascertained but he expressed his condolences to the parents and other relatives of the soldiers killed in the war.
Azerbaijan has so far provided no information on the number of soldiers killed or wounded in the fighting, but Armenia has claimed that 80 Azeri people were killed in shelling and rocket attacks on civilians. ۔
Russian President Vladimir Putin has also claimed that more than 4,000 people were killed and 8,000 wounded in the war between the two countries.
It should be noted that Nagorno-Karabakh is a recognized territory of Azerbaijan, but it was occupied by the Armenian tribal group through the army, while Pakistan is the only country that does not recognize Armenia due to this occupation. It has been going on since 1988 with several wars and thousands have been killed so far.
