The European Parliament has warned that the standard of fundamental rights in Europe is falling. These views were expressed during the vote in Europe for the approval of the report on the "Status of Fundamental Rights 19-2018" presented in Parliament. In favor of which 330 votes were cast. 298 opposed and 65 members were absent.
The report strongly condemns attempts by governments in several European countries to undermine the autonomy of the courts and the system of devolution of power to institutions.
The report says that in many European member states, hate speech and racism in various forms are becoming commonplace, not only among extremists but also between government and political party representatives.
The report calls for an effective ban on neo-Nazi and neo-fascist groups. The report also details the role of journalists and (whistleblowers) in timely identification of threats to media freedom, collectivism and freedom of thought and the survival of democracy.
The lawmakers also called on member states to ensure freedom of assembly and curb the use of force by law enforcement agencies at such gatherings.
The report also expressed grave concern over the violent repulsion of asylum seekers from their borders by several states and humanitarian problems in refugee camps. The report condemns incidents of intimidation, arrest, and intimidation of organizations and individuals working for migrants and calls for their immediate cessation.
At the same time, there is an emphasis on creating humanitarian corridors and visa programs for these migrants.
