In this regard, the Meteorological Department has issued a statement recommending the use of masks and goggles.
Khalid Mahmood, spokesman of the Meteorological Department, while talking to Urdu News, said that there is a possibility of deep smog in the central areas of Punjab province this year which will last from mid-November to December 15.
According to the spokesperson, there are fears of more smog this year as compared to last year due to increase in environmental pollution and decrease in temperature.
"Smog intensity is likely to increase in Lahore, Gujranwala, Kasur, Sheikhupura, Gujarat, Sialkot and Faisalabad."
According to medical experts, the spread of corona virus is also expected to increase in Central Punjab due to the threat of smog.
In the light of the forecast of the Meteorological Department, Punjab has also proposed to close educational institutions once again. However, an inter-provincial meeting of education ministers has decided to keep the educational institutions open in November.
Dr Rana Jawad Asghar, an epidemiologist at the World Health Organization's Health Regulations, said the precautionary measures for smog were radically different from those of the corona virus.
"Citizens now have to see if they want to avoid diseases caused by smog or the corona virus."
Dr. Rana Jawad said that as a precautionary measure against corona virus, it is recommended to keep the windows and doors open, but doing so in smog can lead to various respiratory diseases.
He said that due to lack of ventilation in winter, there is a high risk of spreading the virus. Because fresh air does not enter, the virus has a longer chance of surviving in one place.
"Low temperatures cause many types of viruses to spread more quickly, spend more time in a well-ventilated place in the summer, and close windows and doors in the winter, and more people in one place, making it more likely to spread the virus." Increase.
According to Dr Rana Jawad Asghar, more precautions are needed in the coming days due to low temperature and smog.
"Smog can cause a variety of respiratory illnesses under normal circumstances, which weakens the human immune system." Corona virus can be more dangerous for people who have a respiratory illness or an allergy.
Dr Athar Riaz Ali Rana, a pulmonologist at Shifa International Hospital in Islamabad, says respiratory illnesses also generally increase in winter, and smog increases the risk of developing the corona virus.
"Smog is caused by environmental pollution that directly affects the respiratory tract and the chest, thus increasing complications and risks."
