New differences have emerged between the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) and Pakistan Super League (PSL) franchises, and some franchise owners are unhappy with the inclusion of PSL in the international broadcasting rights contract of the bilateral series. It was decided how much the share would be while silence was observed after asking for 2 names to participate in the consultation process.
According to the details, the PCB had sold PSL's overseas media rights to TechFront International FZE from 2019 to 2021. The board signed the agreement in September, alleging serious violations of the agreement on several occasions, including non-payment of dues. The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) did the same to compensate the losses. The said media partner had sold the fifth edition of the live streaming rights to the gambling company.
Several months later, the board accepted the apology and announced that it would not take any action but terminated the agreement on non-payment of dues. According to a tender issued a few months ago, the PCB has agreed to hold International Cricket from November 2020 to March 2023. The PSL had also called for offers for broadcasting rights outside Pakistan. The tender was canceled due to non-availability of suitable bids for regions other than Africa, which will now be re-issued.
The franchises are not happy about linking the PSL to the series, the PCB said, adding that this was done to increase value but some team owners have become concerned over the sale of rights only to Africa, causing constant financial losses. The teams get a small amount of money from the media rights deal, sources said, adding that the board linked the PSL to the bilateral series in view of its popularity. Two names were sought from the franchisees to join the consultation process, but Then when the four names came, no one was included.
Even before this decision, the problems of the losing teams will increase. It is not yet clear how the value of the series and PSL will be decided, said Samiul Hassan Burney, Director Media, PCB. That the relevant PCB officials are not available due to domestic engagements on holidays, the response will be given only after talking to them.
