In the Philippines, airport authorities found 119 live spiders hidden inside the shoes. The parcel was sent from Poland to a person living in the Philippines.
According to international media, the parcel, which was coming from Poland to the Philippine city of Kyoto, attracted the attention of the authorities due to its strange structure.
When customs officials opened it, they found 119 rare species of live spiders. The spiders were wrapped in plastic tubes that filled the inside of the shoe and its box.
According to the Philippine Customs Bureau, the spiders were immediately handed over to the Wildlife Trafficking Monitoring Unit.
Authorities have launched an investigation into who the parcel was being sent to.
This rare species of spider, called Tarantulas, is kept at home by enthusiasts. It is considered an endangered insect in the Philippines.
The spider, which is 4 to 11 inches in size, has hair on its body, it is not counted among the venomous spiders.
