It may be recalled that on this very day in 1996, on October 20, Wasim Akram came in at number eight in the Test match against Zimbabwe and played an innings of 257 runs and saved the match from a painful defeat.
Zimbabwe made their first tour of Pakistan after receiving the Test cap in October 1996 and the match was played at the Sheikhupura ground from October 17 to 21.
Zimbabwe won the toss and elected to bat first, scoring 375 runs. In reply to Zimbabwe's 241 runs, Pakistan started batting and played a memorable innings of 553 runs in which Wasim Akram came eighth on October 20, 1996 and played an innings of 257 runs off 363 balls and remained unbeaten.
