Turkish scientists develop software for deaf people

Two Turkish scientists have developed software that will make it easier for deaf people to gain knowledge.

Developed by Ahmad Farooq Aslan and Ozar Selk, professors at Osmanazi University in Central Essexir Province, the software will translate websites, PDFs and videos into sign language.

Work on the project began in 2016 when his request for funding was accepted by the Turkish Council for Scientific and Technical Research (TUBITA).

In the last four years, Aslan and Selk have developed three different software programs to improve the quality of life of the deaf.

The software has the ability to translate videos, PDFs and voice over objects for the deaf.

Talking to the media, Celik said that the population of deaf people in Turkey is around 3.5 million and this number has reached 360 million worldwide.

Celik added that more than half of deaf people in Turkey have difficulty understanding.

He added that the main reason for this is that there is a big difference between Turkish and Chinese. Sign language uses a variety of grammars. Due to which deaf people face difficulties. "We are now working on a new software that will convert sign language into writing to make it easier for deaf people," Celik said.
