Tsundoku: A term that can spark an interesting debate

 


"Books are like captive souls until someone takes them off a shelf and frees them," says Samuel Butler, a philosopher, painter, musician and English writer.

The world has changed, there are still a lot of people who are interested in reading and reading books, but the color of the internet and computer screen is getting darker due to the habit of turning the pages. People all over the world still buy and read books, but you may be surprised to know that there are some of them who bring home books to decorate and never read them.

Tsundoku is a term for people who were born in Japan. In this term ‌ Tsun means to acquire or gather and accumulate and Doku means to read or study.

This term is used for a person who is fond of collecting books and keeps them in his bookshelf in a regular order and context and also cleans the bookshelf from time to time and shakes the dust that accumulates on the books. But does not study them!

Experts say the term may be new to the majority, but that does not mean it has been coined in recent years or decades. The term was coined in 1879 and is likely to be even older.
