The social networking and microblogging site Twitter has tightened rules ahead of the US election.
A Twitter spokesman said in a statement that the rules were being tightened to prevent misinformation, and that tweets that incited people to violence or in the election process would now be removed. Intervention will be encouraged.
The spokesperson clarified that "unverified content shared on Twitter from next week will be deemed misleading. Any user who retweets it will be provided with verified information in this regard." ۔
"Misleading information will be further restricted in the future, with warnings to the public, as well as specific labels with campaigning political figures," the Twitter post said.
The company clarified that "the accounts of American political figures and candidates with more than 100,000 followers will be labeled."
Twitter said that the labeled tweet will not be retweeted and users will not be able to quote it, as well as the option to reply will be removed, in addition to warning users on such tweets. A message will also be displayed which can be removed and the tweet can be read.
The social media platform says it has also decided to label tweets in which a candidate falsely declares victory.
