Syed Jaffer Shah, president of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf's Gilgit-Baltistan chapter and a veteran politician, has died at the age of 75 in a hospital in Islamabad.
According to details, Syed Jaffar Shah was infected with Corona last month after which he was admitted to a private hospital in the federal capital. Family sources said that his condition had been deteriorating for the past two days as Corona's His heart and lungs were affected due to this. He said that Jaffar Shah had defeated cancer in the past.
The family said that his body would be shifted from Islamabad to Gilgit today where he would be buried in his ancestral graveyard in Jalalabad. Syed Jafar Shah left a widow, two sons and two daughters in mourning.
Syed Jaffar Shah, a three-time member of the Northern Areas Council, joined the PPP in the 1980s and served as president from 2005 to 2012, while he served on the Gilgit-Baltistan Supreme Court from 2012 to 2016. He also continued to serve as a judge.
After retiring as a judge, he joined Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) and was appointed party president in Gilgit-Baltistan in 2019. Jaffar Shah was the PTI's candidate in the upcoming elections in Gilgit-Baltistan. He was considered the strongest candidate.
