A child was dragged by a hippopotamus to wash clothes on the banks of the Victoria Canal in the Mbita area of Kenya.

According to international media reports, civilians were present on the banks of the canal in Victoria as usual, while some were working in the fields.

Some children were playing by the canal while the youths were sitting there washing their clothes when a hippo hippo came and snatched the child and took him into the water.

When the boy cried out for help, the people standing by the canal threw stones at Hippo, but he did not give up his prey and dived into deeper water.

Some of the people standing around were trying to get into the water but were stopped by other citizens. Shortly afterwards, the hippopotamus dropped the baby into the water and left.

After the incident was reported, wildlife department volunteers came and pulled the child out of the canal and transported him to the hospital. According to the volunteers, the child was unconscious when he was taken out.

A few hours after being taken to hospital, the child succumbed to his injuries. Doctors said the deceased had sustained serious head injuries which led to his death.

According to the residents, the number of hippopotamus attacks has increased in the last few days. The concerned department was also informed about this but they did not take any action.
