Saudi Arabia failed in the election of the UN Human Rights Council.
According to a foreign news agency, elections were held for the next three years of the UN Human Rights Council in which five countries, including Pakistan, Uzbekistan, Nepal, China and Saudi Arabia, competed for four seats in the Asia-Pacific group. ۔
The election was held by secret ballot in which Pakistan got a record number of votes and managed to get the highest number of 169 votes out of 191. Uzbekistan won with 164 votes, Nepal with 150 votes, China with 139 votes, while Saudi Arabia got only 90 votes and lost.
International humanitarian organizations have strongly opposed Saudi Arabia, accusing it of human rights abuses. Elections were held yesterday for 15 seats, and other member states include France, Britain, Russia, Bolivia, Gabon, Malawi, Mexico, Senegal, Ivory Coast, Ukraine and Cuba. The term of the successful countries will start from January 1.
The Human Rights Council has 47 members and 5 geographical groups have been formed on the basis of regions, including Africa, Asia Pacific, Latin America, the Caribbean, Western Europe and Eastern Europe. The United States has resigned from the Human Rights Council, accusing it of being anti-Israel.
