Pakistan's first mass transit 'Orange Train' was launched in Lahore

The Orange Line train has been formally inaugurated in Lahore, the capital of Pakistan's Punjab province. Punjab Chief Minister Sardar Usman Bazdar inaugurated the train. Train service for ordinary passengers will be available from Monday, October 26, from 8 a.m. to 10 p.m.

There are only 27 stations in the 27 km long railway track which is from Ring Road Dera Gujran to Raiwind Road Ali Town. According to the Punjab government, the train fare has been kept at Rs 40 while an annual subsidy of Rs 12 billion will also be given.

It may be recalled that the Orange Line train project was started during the PML-N era and is part of the C-Pack agreements. In total, پر 2 billion has been spent on this project.

The Orange Line was scheduled to be completed in 2018, but the provincial high court suspended work on its route to preserve the archeological site, delaying the project for 22 months. However, the Supreme Court allowed the work after government assurances.

The PTI government has given six completion dates but the train could not run on time.

Speaking on the occasion, Punjab Chief Minister Usman Bazdar said, “The Orange Line project belongs to the previous government but our government has set a new political precedent by completing the project. Work on other projects worth Rs 1,200 billion of the previous government has also been continued.
