Police in the Garden Town area of Lahore have arrested a policeman on charges of raping a theater actress.
The actress lodged a complaint against the accused policeman for taking her to a dance party at a Garden Town hotel and raping her.
The actress said that she is a dancer by profession and the accused had hired her to dance at a party but she was taken to a hotel and escaped after being raped.
Later, on the complaint of the woman, the police registered a case of rape against the accused and arrested him.
Taking notice of the incident, Inspector General (IG) Punjab Inam Ghani sought a report from the Capital Police Officer (CCPO).
The IG Punjab ordered a departmental inquiry into the allegations against the accused and justice for the victim.
In the middle of this month, in just 48 hours in Kasur district of Punjab, police registered cases of alleged rape of 4 women and 3 minor boys.
Earlier on October 5, a taxi driver in Rawalpindi sexually assaulted a woman at gunpoint in front of her son.
It may be recalled that there has been an increase in rape cases in the country for some time now and on October 2, it was reported that the girl was allegedly gang-raped by the accused in Lahore while the 10-year-old girl was raped in Multan. There was also alleged gang rape, of which 2 accused were also handed over to the police.
Earlier, on October 1, a woman was abducted while waiting for a bus in Nankana Sahib district of Punjab province after she was allegedly drugged and gang-raped by six people.
Earlier on September 20, four armed men allegedly gang-raped a woman in the presence of her husband and children and looted Rs 20,000 in addition to jewelery and fled.
Earlier on September 7, a girl from Pinnwal village in Punjab was gang-raped by her cousins along with her friends. Police claimed to have arrested the accused on September 13.
On September 5, two suspects allegedly gang-raped a married woman at her home in Basti Lashari village in Taunsa Tehsil.
According to the FIR of the incident, the mother of two children said that at 10:45 pm, two persons climbed over the wall of the house while her children, a 2-year-old son and a 6-month-old daughter, were screaming and forcing them to leave the house. He took her to a room and raped her.
On September 9, two 'robbers' allegedly raped a woman in the Gujjarpura area while she was waiting for help after a malfunction in her car on the motorway.
Regarding the details of the incident, the police official claimed that two armed men saw the woman alone and took the woman and children to a nearby field at gunpoint and gang-raped the woman there.
