A bomb blast at a madrassa in the Dir Colony area of Peshawar has killed seven children and injured more than 50, while the condition of several is said to be critical.
SSP Operations said that evidence was being gathered from the spot and the injured were being shifted to the hospital. Preliminary investigation revealed that the blast was an "IED" in which five to six kilograms of explosives were used. Police officials also say the blast was caused by a "time bomb". Ball bearings have also been used in the bomb.
According to media reports, the blast took place in the main hall of the madrassa. As soon as the blast was reported, rescue teams and police rushed to the spot and cordoned off the area and launched rescue operations.
SP City Waqar Azeem said that the children were engaged in education at the time of the blast. A man placed a bag full of explosives in the madrassa. The suspect entered the madrassa at 8 am. The condition of several injured children is critical. Most of the injured are burnt. The injured children are between the ages of 11 and 17. The search for a suspicious person entering the madrassa is underway.
