It has been reported that the cost of Gwadar Airport has increased by 147%. The project will cost a total of more than Rs 55 billion. Most of the funding for the project will come from China. China will provide Rs 34 billion for the construction of the project. It was further informed that it was initially decided to build Gwadar Airport in 2007 at a cost of Rs. 7 billion.
Later in 2015, the project was announced to start at a cost of Rs 22 billion, but no practical progress was made. Now the PTI government has approved funds to start construction of the airport at a cost of 147%. Regarding the project, Chairman C-Pac Authority Asim Saleem Bajwa had said in May this year that construction work on Gwadar International Airport has started and all pending issues have been resolved.
In his tweet on the social networking website, he said that the containers loaded with machinery were cleared at Gwadar port. In this regard, the concerned officials say that Gwadar Airport will be the most modern and magnificent airport in Pakistan. The project has not been completed for several years due to various reasons. However, now Prime Minister Imran Khan has taken special interest and tried his best to start the construction of the project as soon as possible and then finally the construction of the airport has started.
According to sources, China was outraged over the unwarranted delay in the Gwadar Airport project, after which the Prime Minister took special interest in the project. The Prime Minister laid the foundation stone of the new Gwadar Airport for the first time last year, while construction work has now begun. It has been informed that after the completion of construction, Gwadar Airport will be the most modern and magnificent airport in Pakistan. It should also be noted that at present the new Islamabad Airport is considered to be the largest in the country and the most modern airport in the world.
