The Dutch government has said it will pay 5,000 euros to the children of each person killed in Indonesia's war of independence.
The Netherlands has made this announcement for the heirs of Indonesians who were killed by the colonial forces in the late 40's.
The announcement follows a court ruling earlier this year that the state should pay compensation to the widows and children of 11 people killed in 1946 in the southern Indonesian province of Sulawesi.
Dutch Foreign Minister Steve Blok and Defense Minister Anne Bjd have said that all those who prove that their father was killed in Indonesia's war of independence will be compensated.
The two ministers have written to parliament stating that the compensation will be 5,000 euros.
However, all those seeking compensation must provide written proof of their relationship to those killed.
There are many more such cases pending in the courts of the Netherlands, demanding compensation for those whose parents were killed by the Dutch colonial army during the crushing of Indonesia's war of independence.
At least 860 such people were killed by firing squad after being detained by Dutch forces as "freedom fighters" between 1946 and 1947. The Dutch government apologized for the massacre in 2013 and announced compensation for widows.
