The blast in Peshawar's Dir Colony killed seven people and injured 112, five of them in critical condition.
According to media reports, the blast took place in the main hall of the madrassa. As soon as the blast was reported, rescue teams and police rushed to the spot and cordoned off the area and launched rescue operations.
SP City Waqar Azeem said that at the time of the blast, the children were engaged in education. A man placed a bag full of explosives in the madrassa. The suspect entered the madrassa at 8 am. Seven people, including children, were martyred in the blast. The number of injured in the blast has reached 112. Most of the injured have been burnt. The injured children are between the ages of 11 and 17. The search for the suspect who entered the madrassa is underway.
According to police, 4 to 5 kg of explosives were used in the blast. A pit has been dug at the site of the blast. The injured are being shifted to hospitals for medical treatment. Emergency has been declared in various hospitals including Lady Reading Hospital.
A spokesman for the LRH said that 72 injured were shifted to Lady Reading Hospital while 37 injured were shifted to Naseerullah Babar Memorial Hospital. The KTH administration said that 2 injured were shifted to Khyber Teaching Hospital and the condition of 5 injured was critical.
Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) Chief Minister Mahmood Khan has strongly condemned the blast at Dir Colony Madrassa and said that targeting innocent children is reprehensible and cruel. Chief Minister Mahmood Khan has ordered the police to investigate all aspects of the incident. There was no alert for an attack on the madrassas, we had a security alert.
