Afghan security forces have killed a wanted senior al-Qaeda leader, Mohsen al-Morsi.
According to the British news agency Reuters, Afghanistan's National Directorate of Security (NDS) said in a tweet on Saturday night that the al-Qaeda leader was on the US Federal Bureau of Investigation's (FBI) list of most wanted terrorists. Were included.
Chris Miller, head of the US National Counterterrorism Center, confirmed the death of Mohsen al-Morsi in a statement.
"His death is a major blow to a terrorist organization that continues to suffer at the hands of the United States and its allies," he said.
According to him, "the death of al-Qaeda's Mohsen al-Morsi shows the declining usefulness of the terrorist organization."
The United States has accused Morsi of plotting to assassinate US citizens and aiding foreign terrorist organizations.
According to the NDS, Mohsen al-Morsi was considered a key al-Qaeda leader who was killed in a special operation in Afghanistan's Ghazni province.
The FBI has refused to comment on Morsi's death.
