Afghanistan: Clashes kill 28 militants, 8 security personnel

 

Afghan forces killed 28 Taliban militants and wounded 13 others during clashes and operations with the Taliban in different parts of the country. Eight Afghan National Army personnel were killed and several others were injured in the operations. The Taliban claimed responsibility for the killings. Not confirmed or denied.

According to foreign media, Mohammad Andrabi, a local military officer in the western Afghan province of Ghor, confirmed the clashes on the Kabul highway, saying that so far 20 insurgents have been killed and 13 others wounded in the clashes. Andrabi said security forces had seized 40 motorcycles from the fleeing militants, but Taliban militants had not yet commented on the killings.

Meanwhile, eight militants have been confirmed dead in a deadly clash in the Khawaja Sabz Posh district of Afghanistan's northern Faryab province, according to a statement issued by the provincial police here. Attacked security checkpoints in Anna Baig village of Khawaja Sabz Posh district and police retaliatory firing killed 8 militants on the spot while injuring 5 others. Several militants managed to escape on the spot. A local villager was also injured. Security forces said they would continue to pursue the fleeing militants. Taliban fighters have not yet commented.

 Taliban militants attacked security checkpoints in the Imam Sahib District of Kunduz Province, northern Afghanistan, killing five security personnel, according to District Governor Mohibullah Sidi. Five militants were killed and three others were injured in the attack, which also killed militants. Provincial council member Khaliluddin Hakimi confirmed that eight security personnel, including police and army personnel, were killed and more than a dozen others were injured. Officers are either injured or missing.
