A Muslim Indian police officer eventually knelt down to save his job, after which he was reinstated. In Baghpat, Uttar Pradesh, the SSP suspended Muslim police sub-inspector Intezar Ali for wearing a beard. The Muslim sub-inspector was warned three times to shave his beard or seek formal permission from the authorities as per procedure.
He had written a letter to Inspector General (IG) Meerut on November 29, 2019, seeking permission from the IG to grow a beard. Even after a year had passed, no decision had been taken on the letter written by the sub-inspector, on which he continued to work with a beard.
Top police officials then ordered departmental action against Intezar Ali and he was suspended. However, Intezar has now shaved his beard to save his job, after which he has been reinstated on duty.
