After the arrest of PML-N President Shahbaz Sharif, the party will now be run by Maryam Nawaz.
Even before the arrest of Koshabaz Sharif on Monday, party secretary general Ahsan Iqbal had scheduled a press conference at 4 pm, but immediately after the arrest of Shahbaz Sharif, he sent an invitation to Maryam Nawaz for an emergency press conference.
According to PML-N sources, Shahbaz Sharif had ordered to run the party affairs through Shahid Khaqan and Ahsan Iqbal in case of his arrest but Maryam Nawaz came to the field in an emergency and the senior PML-N leadership had to respond to her voice. Ahsan Iqbal, Pervez Rashid, Rana Sanaullah, Sardar Ayaz Sadiq, Rana Tanveer Hussain, Khurram Dastgir, Maryam Aurangzeb and all the league leaders were present in the press conference. Only Shahid Khaqan, Khawaja Asif and Saad Rafique were not present.
Maryam Nawaz hinted that she will soon take to the streets along with the League workers. Maryam Nawaz will also play on the front foot for the election campaign in Gilgit-Baltistan, including nationwide protest rallies.
