According to the business magazine Bloomberg, San Francisco Magistrate Laurel Baylor has issued a restraining order against the ban on WeChat. He issued the order at the request of the WeChat Users' Alliance, which argued that a ban on WeChat would restrict freedom of expression and affect millions of Chinese-speaking Americans. There are citizens who only know Chinese and for them WeChat is very important in communicating with each other.
On Friday, the US Department of Commerce issued an order banning transactions with WeChat's parent company from Sunday. The ban was imposed in light of President Trump's August 6 executive order.
The United States claims that the Chinese app WeChat is a threat to national security because its parent company is part of the Chinese Communist Party, through which the Chinese ruling party can propagate and steal US ideas.
