Saudi Arabia will host a women's sports event for the first time

A women's sports event will be held in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia in November, the first tournament of its kind in Saudi Arabia.

According to the Dawn newspaper, for the first time, a professional golf tournament for women will be hosted by Saudi Arabia at the Royal Greens Golf and Country Club in Jeddah.

Saudi Ladies International will be the first Ladies European Tour (LET) event to run from November 12 to November 15 with a prize money of $10 million.

The event in Saudi Arabia will be the third most expensive tournament in the world after the British and Scottish Open.

According to reports, the tournament was originally scheduled for March but was postponed due to Code-19, which will feature 100 women, including Amy Bolden of Wales, who won the Swiss Open this month.

The event will be immediately followed by the Saudi Ladies Team International from November 17 to November 19, which will include amateurs with a professional team and a prize money of $500,000.

Saudi Arabia has previously hosted the Saudi International Men's Tournament in 2019 and 2020, making it the third professional tournament.

"For the first time in Saudi Arabia's history, we are excited to be part of the first professional women's golf tournament," said Alexander Arms, head of the LeT.

"We are grateful to him for holding not just one but two tournaments, while this year has been difficult for golf," he said.

Freedom House, an international watchdog on democracy, has in the past strongly criticized Saudi Arabia for failing to give women adequate rights, and Saudi Arabia's world on women's freedom, political rights and social freedom. I called it one of the worst countries.

Saudi Arabia has hosted a number of sporting events in recent years, most notably the 2018 heavyweight boxing title between Britain's Anthony Joshua and Mexican-American Andy Ruiz Jr.

In addition, the Italian Super Cup in 2018 and 2019 was also played in Saudi Arabia.
